Job Description: MNT Dietitian

Definition:
An individual who is a Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD eligible by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. The MNT Dietitian plans food and medical nutrition interventions to prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits and recommending dietary modifications based on approved standards of care.

Reports to:
Program Manager, Medical Nutrition (Health Education Department)

 

Responsibilities:
1. Counsels individuals and groups on nutritional practices designed to prevent disease and promote health

2. Performs nutrition assessments and assists the patients to develop nutrition goals to improve their diets

3. Develops or recommends nutrition education materials for clients, and maintains a library of materials and readings as references for clients

4. Develops and maintains a Medical Nutrition Diet Manual and/or Nutritional Care Plans

5. Confer with doctors and other healthcare professionals in order to coordinate medical and nutritional needs

6. Serves as a resource person to other members of the Health Education Department and clinical health care team.

7. Completes required forms in an accurate and thorough manner.

8. Participates in the planning, conducting and evaluation of nutrition and health programs for special population

10. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team

11. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required by the health center guidelines which may include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous
substance release or spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up as specified in the NEVHC clinical health services policy and procedures manual.

12. Performs other related duties as required.
 

Qualifications:

Education: A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or other healthcare related field from an accredited university. Active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian, or eligible for registration (must have completed academic and clinical internship requirements and be waiting to take the registration examination).

Note: Eligible appointees not actively registered as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration will have twelve (12) months from date of appointment to become registered or be removed from the position.

License/Transportation: Appointee will be required to possess a valid California Class “3" driver’s license, an available car in good running condition and adequate liability insurance.

Experience: Experience with clinical nutrition, more specifically chronic disease management, and prenatal nutrition preferred.

Languages: Bilingual in English/Spanish a must.
