Job Description: Nutrition Assistant II
Definition:
As a member of the WIC clinic team, this position is primarily responsible for servicing participants on the program, as well as teaching nutrition education classes. This position is 100% direct client service.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for teaching the monthly nutrition education classes in an effective and enthusiastic manner, according to the half hour clinic scheduling of classes. Insures proper daily set up/clean up of the clinic classroom; monthly acquisition of and return of class supplies; and proper care for class equipment. Notifies Clinic Supervisor of missing or broken class equipment/supplies. Responsible for screening applicants, enrolling, disqualifying, certifying and authorizing WIC checks for participants on the program via the ISIS computer system, in a cheerful, courteous and timely manner. Works as a team with other employees to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. Assists in maintaining security and inventory of the check stock. Assists with training employees in the clinic. Manages minor participant problems/questions at the clinic or refers them to the supervisor for resolution. Assists in set up and clean up of clinic on a daily basis in coordination with other employees. Assists in updating of WIC computer files, answering phones, and contacting participants by phone or mail, as needed. Attends in service meetings as scheduled. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to a disaster control or fire safety response team. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required in the health center (if in a co-located site) which may include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous substance release or spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up as specified in the NEVHC clinical health services policy and procedures manual. Performs other duties as necessary to ensure that the clinic is running smoothly and efficiently.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Effective teaching and communication skills.
Knowledge of the policies and procedures for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program as they relate to the position.
Working knowledge of clinic procedures.
Ability to work as a team member with the WIC staff.

Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED equivalency.
Must pass WIC teaching abilities interview.
Legible handwriting.
Bi-lingual preferred, Spanish/English, Armenian/English or Vietnamese/English..
Must have current CA Class 3 drivers license, available automobile and proof of minimum liability insurance (15/30/5).
Must have basic computer abilities and be willing and able to learn the ISIS Computer System.
