Job Description: Registered Dental Assistant
Definition:
Assists dentist at chairside, employing the latest concept of four-handed dentistry and serves as front/backup receptionist and works as front receptionist.

Responsibilities:
Dental Assistant II/ Registered Dental Assistant
Seats and drapes patient to receive dental treatment. Sets up instruments, materials and medications for use in dental operation. Passes required instruments, materials and medications to dentist. Keeps oral operating areas clean during dental proce­dures. Prepares restorative materials, dental cements and impressions materials. Assists during oral surgery. Holds anterior matices. Takes, processes, develops and mounts dental x-rays. Cleans, sharpens and sterilizes dental instruments. Performs routine maintenance - lubricates equipment and replaces expendable parts.
Maintains equipment and supplies in dental area at established inventory level.
   
•  Performs extra-oral duties specified by the dentist.
    
•  Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models.
    
•  Applies non aerosol and non caustic topical agents
Applies topical fluoride after scaling and polishing by the supervising dentist.

Dental Assistant I / II
Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required in the health center which may include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous substance release or spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up as specified in the NEVHC clinical health services policy and procedures manual.
 

Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED equivalency, RDA license.
Excellent communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English required.
Completion of recognized curricu­lum for dental assistants or one year of experience in dental office. For Dental Assistant II, two years experience in dental office required. RDA license.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she is able to identify and categorize each patients age specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule Monday-Friday, Saturdays & Wednesday evenings.
