Job Description: Registration Clerk
Definition:
The Registration Clerk I/II performs patient admission and reception functions and serves as back-up to and as a team with the positions of Medical Records Clerk and Telephone Operator.

Responsibilities:
Greets new and established patients, gives instructions on completion of clinic forms and initiates a patient encounter form. Elicits and inputs all intake information needed for encounter form including updating patient demographic data and payment information. Reviews patient account status and routes patient to business office or eligibility department (e.g. financial screening, payment arrangements, etc.) when indicated. Updates patient data for new address, phone, marital status, financial classification, etc. Provides general clinic information regarding hours of operation, services, directions; receives incoming mail and deliveries and notifies appropriate staff to pick up; takes messages. Operates office machines including computer CRT, photocopying machine, mail machine and other office machines as may be required to perform job. Collects patient prepayments, issues receipt, maintains cash receipts journal. Collects required documentation for third party billing including Medi-Cal stickers, insurance forms, assignment of benefits, CHDP DHS 4073, Medicare claim forms, etc. Balances daily cash receipts journal with cash collected and turns in daily bank to Business Office. Participates in cross training exercises to assure competence in Medical Records Clerk and Telephone Operator functions and performs those functions as assigned/needed. Maintains various logs and statistics. Trains, when assigned, staff assigned to the department. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required in the health center which may include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous substance release or spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up as specified in the NEVHC clinical health services policy and procedures manual.
Performs other tasks as may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED certificate.

Must be able to type 30 wpm.
Fluent in English and Spanish.
Pleasant, patient-oriented attitude and professional appearance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and reading comprehension.
One year previous work experience in an office setting or completion of recent equivalent job training program.
